Why visit? It is cosmopolitan and is one of the coolest cities in the world. The Big Apple has so many interesting things to offer for everyone and many landmarks to see.
Where to Stay? We found an apartment through Craigslist and stayed in the New York University staff quarters near MacDougall Street in Greenwich Village which is full of cool bars and restaurants. It was a good deal comparing to what we would have paid staying in a hotel in the same area.
Pros
- We have the whole flat for our own and there were plenty of space
- The ‘landlord’ offered us free internet access
- Very good location
- Good value for money
Cons
- There was a construction site next to the apartment so at the time during our stay, it was very noisy but the ‘landlord’ kindly refunded some monies to us as a compensation
- Amenities were basic but it’s not a 5-star hotel
Length of this Trip 7 days and trip made in 2010.
What to do? My favourite districts in NYC are Lower East Side and Williamsburg – all very cool places and good for shopping! I didn’t like Lower Manhattan and the Central Business District as much because it’s very busy, packed with tourists and very commercial. Central Park was very nice though - pick a fine day and a picnic or hire a boat for your visit. We were in NYC for a whole week and had a very good time. So here’s my 7-day fool-proof itinerary and you will love NYC!
